A New Year is coming soon – so I’m preparing for A New Outlook

Dear Fellow Crafters,

I was making some travelers notebook insert kits today and it got me thinking, I absolutely love prompt challenges. The problem is I never finish them or actually do a prompt a day. I always get really excited and set up my journal and do the first couple days, I forget about it and then play catch-up. I don’t know if it’s just me being a airhead, which I can be sometimes🤪, or if it’s that the prompts don’t really inspire me.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

So here’s my plan: (steps in no particular order)

*a step: make myself a travelers notebook insert kit

*a step: make myself a prompt list (which I am going to do right now- at the bottom of this blog)

*a step: put together a pencil box full of my favorite writing essentials

*a step: pick a place to put all my new goodies, somewhere out of the way but not somewhere I’ll forget where I put it.

*a step: wait for the new year, get it out and get started

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

See my problem is, when I do prompt challenges they never engage me in the world around me and they never get the wheels turning in my head. I usually just write what I think I should. That’s on me, not the people posting the prompts. I hope that my list will help me put down the Ipad and see the world’s little treasures. I lived the majority of my life without the internet but I didn’t even remember what it was like. I hope this new prompt challenge will give me a new outlook, and maybe lead me to some awesome adventures. I guess we’ll see. 🙃

So I’m going to share my list of prompts and if you would like to give them a try, by all means, have at it. I hope you find them fun. Remember that this is about turning off the electronics and engage in the world around us. Plus if you feel a prompt it not working for you just change it up so it better suits you and your life.

The reason I want to write the list now and share it is so I will forget most, or all, the prompts. Then they will be new to me when I do them in January. Well at least that’s what I’m hoping will happen. Lol. 🤗

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

HOW IT WORKS: Read the prompt in the morning then go about your day, after you have completed the prompt do your journaling. You may want to carry your journal with you, it’s up to you though and how you like to journal.

January Prompt List

1st: Today is the first day of a whole new year, so today try to see things you have never noticed before. Make some time to just look around and list anything you notice. Maybe go a little further and write why you think you never noticed it before.

2nd: Right now, write down a statement that is very nice, the nicest thing you can think of…………….Now make it a point today to say that statement to someone.

3rd: Can you name the 13 original colonies? Try and then ask some people today and see if they can. Write who did best, did worst, and who did just ok.

4th: Describe in excruciating detail your outfit today…………Now do the same about someone else’s outfit.

5th: “Dad Jokes” are the best. List some of them and tell at least one today and Journal about how it all goes (was it a hit or a miss?). Plus see if anyone tells you a Dad Joke, if so what was it.

6th: The sky is so beautiful, take the time to actually look at it today. Journal what you see. 😎

7th: List T.V shows you are addicted too. Journal why you think you are addicted to them.

8th: Now that you are a little into the month list your goals for your life, not just this year. Now journal how you are going to make it happen.

9th: List some questions you don’t know the answer to. Now try to figure them out. 🧐

10th: List your best qualities………..now list your worst enemy’s best qualities. It might take you awhile and you may not come up with anything, but give it a try.

11th: What do you love most about nature??? Go for a walk and list all the beautiful things you see.

12th: Today just breathe, take a moment and just BE……………..Journal how you are feeling.

13th: Pick a movie you loved as a kid and watch it today. Write if it’s as good as you remember. Maybe ask someone else what their favorite childhood movie is.

14th: Go to your favorite place, set, Journal.

15th: Today is going to be a weird one. Write down, in as much detail you can, a conservation you had with someone you don’t really know (Plus I guess the challenge is also to talk to someone you don’t really know).

16th: Now that you’re more than half way through the month let’s have some fun. Write down everything you saw today that was the color orange. I fill orange is an unappreciated color. If you don’t agree, then pick a color you feel is unappreciated and make your list for that color instead. 🙂

17th: Today is a good day. List all the good things that happen to you today. (I pray you don’t have to think hard for a List)

18th: List any and all the songs that popped into your head today and what were you doing when it happened. If no songs did List the songs you wish would have popped into your head today.

19th: Today try to notice anything that’s an oddball (something in a group but stands out cuz it’s so different) and make a list.

20th: Today just SMILE. Journal your thoughts about it.

21st: Make a list of star constellations, then look up at tonight’s sky and see if you can spot one of them. 💫

22nd: Write a letter to yourself that you are to read in 2019.

23rd: Put on your favorite song and dance away, document the experience.

24th: Today make some time to go for a walk. Make a list of different animals you see. 🙄

25th: Pick your favorite book, get it out, flip to a random page, write it in your journal, list your thoughts on it.

26th: The English language is funny sometimes, list words or phrases you use a lot. Then list word and phrases other people use that you don’t.

27th: Today remember your BESTS (friend, outfit, day, trip, photo, etc.) and list them, maybe even share a conversation with someone and see what their BESTS are.

28th: Write down your favorite color. Then list all the things you see of that color today.

29th: Take your journal with you today and draw a portrait of an everyday activity you see.

30th: Write a poem about something you saw today.

31st: Give yourself a grade on how you did this month. List all the ways you want to improve.

Let me know if you decide to join me with this prompt challenge.

Something Every New Crocheter Should Know!

Just a little Crocheting talk!

👋🏼Dear fellow Crafters,

Maybe what I’m about to say is common knowledge or even common sense, but I feel a need to share it never the less. I wish I had known this in the beginning of my crocheting journey, it would have saved me many headaches and money lol.

So here it goes……….There are different styles of crochet hooks! And yes they feel different when using them.

I know I know a lot of you are going to say “duh, there are different styles!” But I was very unaware of this for some time.

So for those of you who did not know this, here you go. There are two styles:

+Tapered Hook

The Tapered Hook is the most common style of hook in my opinion. The most popular and readily available brand is Boye.

+Inline Hook

The Inline Hook is also popular but I feel it’s harder to find, especially in stores. The most popular brand is Susan Bates.

So now that you know, I recommend that before you buy a whole set of hook sizes you try out one of both hook styles and see which you like best. Then you can invest and get all the many different hook sizes.

The reason I felt a real need to share this is I spent a lot of money getting hooks for all the different projects I wanted to try then realized that I loved the other hook style! So I feel by posting this I’ve done my little part in saving a fellow crafter a headache or two, that is if someone actually reads this lol.

Well anywho, I hoped this helped.

✌🏼Peace,

Llama
